Tower 57, Midtown Manhattan, NY

Project Description

135 East 57th Street, aka Tower 57, is known for its prominent concave facade and plaza with iconic folly temple that is like nothing else in Manhattan. This internationally renowned office and retail property located on Billionaires’ Row in Midtown rises 32 stories above Park and Lexington Avenues. It was designed by William Pedersen and completed in 1988. Reviewed by Paul Goldberger of the New York Times, he commented: …135 East 57th Street is a brilliant building, one of the best office towers of the last generation in New York…”

Vermont Verde adorns all sides of the building’s exterior, framing the huge first floor windows and the main entrance. The pillars of the tempietta are accented with serpentine, and the plaza fountains are hewn from it. Verde features including tall pillars, elevator frames, geometric floor accents and bench seating also figure prominently in the grand neo-classical lobby.
